PERCY''S GRAND SLAM.
Two former bookmakers turned hoteliers who own one of the Westcountry’s most unique establishments have stunned everyone with their latest achievements.
Tina and Tony Bricknell-Webb, the dynamic couple behind the critically acclaimed Percy’s Country Hotel and Restaurant have taken both the South West and the Hospitality world by storm, after winning a grand slam of very exclusive and sought after industry awards.
Percy’s, which is at the centre of a stunning, organically managed 130 acre Devon Estate, has simultaneously received a Gold Ribbon from the RAC, been made a Stylish and Chic Hotel of the Year in the 2003 Which? Hotel Guide and for the second year in succession has had the title of the ETC’s ‘Small Hotel of the Year’ for the Westcountry bestowed upon them.
This amazing success story began life as a derelict farm and is proof that Devon’s largely rural economy is now beginning to regenerate itself following the ravaging effects of last year’s Foot and Mouth epidemic. Whilst visitor numbers are still down, the Restaurant has already enjoyed a hugely successful year picking up a ‘Devon Commended’ accolade in the Good Food Guide, an unprecented 9/10 from the Saturday Times chief food critic and a very rare four Dining awards from the RAC.
The Hotel’s latest accolades, unrivalled throughout the South West, have effectively provided a prototype for what Country Hotels should now aspire to provide. In the words of the Managing Director, Tony Bricknell-Webb; “The timing of these awards could not have been better. Because of the chronic skills shortage in this country, my wife and I have recently set up the South West’s first Chef’s Academy. Designed to change the perception that the catering industry has whilst making the training side a lot more stimulating and enjoyable, these awards are crucial in showing youngsters everywhere that this region is in reality a hot bed of opportunities.”
